A Swiss engineer, George de Mestral (1907 – 1990), invented what is
generically called “Hook and Loop” or “Touch Fastener” in the 1940’s.
In the years following, materials and machinery were developed for mass
production of “Hook and Loop” or “Touch Fasteners”.
Following his daily walks, George de Mestral observed that his clothing
and dog’s fur were covered with burrs, hook-like seeds of the Burdock
plant. The barbed hook-like seeds meshed with the loop fiber of his
clothing. From this, he coined the word “Velcro” from the French words
for velvet, “velour”, and hook, “crochet”.
However, Velcro® is NOT the actual “Hook and Loop” product or “Touch Fastener”.
Velcro® is the name of a group of companies and is a registered
trademark of Velcro Industries B.V. The Velcro companies pay close
attention to how the Velcro® trademark is used.
Paiho® manufactures the Trihook® Touch Fastener brand, EasyTape® Molded Hook brand and Charcoal Tech® Fiber brand.
The Trihook® Touch Fastener brand is recognized worldwide for
consistent high-quality, meeting the most stringent of application
requirements.
The Paiho Group has more than 25 years manufacturing experience.
